Eligible Participants: Investigators with a faculty appointment currently mentoring early career researchers engaged and/or interested in HIV research.
Drs. Ingrid Bassett, Jessica Haberer, Bisola Ojikutu, and Markella Zanni are pleased to bring the well-established “Mentoring the Mentors” Workshop for HIV Researchers to Harvard University (led by the UCSF workshop leaders and experts in the field).
This one-day abridged workshop (modeled after the two-day program held at UCSF since 2012) is an intensive and interactive meeting designed to provide faculty in HIV research with the tools for more effective mentoring, especially of mentees of diversity (defined mainly as those from underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities).
The workshop discusses barriers related to being an early career investigator of diversity (e.g. microaggressions, unconscious bias), and features didactic and interactive sessions on practical tips for mentoring, including sessions on distance mentoring, funding sources for mentoring efforts, time management, leadership styles, manuscript writing, grant writing, individual development plans, teaching work-life balance to mentees, alternative funding strategies, forming teams, etc.
