Overview

What's the status of official Linux support at BU?

We support Linux as we do Irix and Solaris. Additionally, we provide our own custom distribution of the OS, called BU Linux. Release 4.0 (a.k.a. Bossanova) is available now. We don't provide official tech support for individual users, but do try (in our spare time) to answer questions posted to the bu.linux newsgroup. And of course, if you find a bug, please file a report with our Bugzilla system.

What distributions do you support?

We are be able to provide the most complete support when you're using the BU Linux distribution. We may also be able to help with other up-to-date varieties of Linux, but the level of support will be less. If you feel that you have Linux needs that BU Linux doesn't meet, please contact us and we'll see what we can do to correct that.

Please see the BU Linux FAQ section for currently-supported BU Linux version numbers.

What services does Systems Support offer?

OIT Systems Support works with the local information techology staff in your department to provide systems support. We also maintain resources like the BU Linux distribution (including security updates), access to applications through AFS, and this web page.

If you don't currently have a support arrangement with Systems Support, we can also offer help on a time and materials basis, or we can talk about establishing a more permanent support relationship. Please contact us for more information.
