Celebrate One Boston Day by Giving Back

April 14, 2026
Dia Jain (CAS27) (left), Justin Jin (CAS28), William Spannuth (CAS27), Michael French (CAS26), and Ajau Raman (CAS&GRS26) participated in this year's Med AI Hackathon on Saturday, April 11th, in the Center for Computing & Data Sciences. at Boston University’s first MedAI hackathon, where multidisciplinary student groups tackled pressing biomedical challenges using artificial intelligence. Teams from across the university developed AI models to predict features like microscopic vascular invasion in lung cancer, quantify amyloid burden in Alzheimer’s PET scans, and detect acute tubular injury from kidney proteomics data. The two-day event drew 30 teams competing for $10,000 in prizes on BU’s high-performance computing resources. The hackathon underscored the power of convergent research to turn student innovation into potential contributions for peer-reviewed publications and improved patient care.
