Vincent Paul Murphy

Vincent Paul Murphy (CGS’70, Wheelock’72,’84) of New York, N.Y., published Caught: A Kid with a Cup (Vincent Paul Murphy, 2025), a memoir that takes readers to his early days growing up in the Boston housing projects, where he collected money with a cup for a nonexistent children's theater company. Eventually the scheme was revealed—but instead of being arrested, he was put into a real children’s theater company. Vincent’s experience there evolved into a globe-trotting theatrical and academic career that saw him earn a faculty position at Emory University and work on award-winning projects. “This memoir is an exploration of how we become someone on this planet, and how we use our imaginations to create new works and find family and friends who both nurture and challenge what we value,” he writes. Vincent is the author of several plays and Page to Stage: The Craft of Adaptation (University of Michigan Press, 2013), an instructional text.
