Sumaira Ahmed
Sumaira Ahmed (CGS’09, COM’11) of Somerville, Mass., was diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) in 2014. Soon after, she founded the Sumaira Foundation from her hospital bed. Now an international organization, the foundation raises awareness of NMOSD and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease. Sumaira was also featured in a 2022 episode of the PBS docuseries Medical Stories, where she discussed her journey and why she started the foundation. Learn more at www.sumairafoundation.org.
