Richard Newman
Richard Newman (Wheelock’77) of Santa Monica, Calif., earned a PhD in education and psychology at the University of Michigan in 1982 and went on to spend 27 years in academia—at SUNYStony Brook, the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, and the University of California-Riverside—where his research involved cognitive and social development, achievement motivation, peer harassment, and academic and social helpseeking. “I retired in 2009 as professor emeritus at the UC-Riverside Graduate School of Education,” he writes. “Having become licensed in 1996 as a clinical psychologist in California, I currently have a child clinical practice. One focus in my clinical work is helping youngsters cope with psychological issues related to social media use.” Email him at DrNewman@DrRSNewman.com.
