Paula Rosenberg Bell
Paula Rosenberg Bell (DGE’72, Wheelock’74) of Taftville, Conn., writes that she was inducted into the Groton Educators Hall of Fame on October 24, 2021. “I got my start in deaf education at Wheelock, where I was introduced to American Sign Language (before it was truly accepted and recognized as a language),” she writes. “I retired in 2014 but continue my love affair with deaf education and ASL as both an independent consultant for students with hearing loss in Connecticut and as an adjunct, teaching ASL 1 and 2 in the Connecticut Community College system since 1986. My induction was the second bookend of my career. The first was being the first Teacher of the Year for LEARN in 1991. After earning my master’s from the University of Virginia in 1975, I taught continuously from 1975 until 2014 in the public school systems of Richmond, Va., LEARN, Montville Public Schools, and Groton Public Schools. Thank you, Wheelock, for giving me my start in my fabulous and beloved career!”
