Kayleigha Zawacki
Kayleigha Zawacki (CFA’14,’22) and Jay Zawacki (CFA’12) of Leominster, Mass., started the company Science Division, and are creating app-enabled Tribbles, a fuzzy alien species from Star Trek. “I have always been a fan of the television show,” writes Kayleigha. “As a child, I desperately wanted a pet Tribble—a fuzzy ball of fur from the show that trills at friends and screams at enemies. Jay and I have BFAs in theater design from BU, and no background in programming, but we thought we would see if we could build our own interactive Tribble using online tutorials. In about two months, we had built our very own ‘living’ Tribble. That was going to be the end of it, but friends and family kept telling us how much they wanted one. We were able to schedule a meeting with the licensing director at CBS, who loved the Tribbles, and in February [2019] we were granted a license. Since February, the two of us have founded an LLC, completed the development process with our manufacturer, reached the end of the beta phase of our app development, and begun preselling Tribbles to raise funds for the initial order.” Find out more at www.sciencediv.com.
