John Stomberg
John Stomberg (GRS’90,’99) of Williamstown, Mass., the inaugural Virginia Rice Kelsey 1961s Director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, retired in June 2026. During his 10-year tenure, he oversaw a $50 million renovation and expansion of the museum and dramatically amplified its impact on campus. A specialist in American and European modernist art, he guided the museum through its expansion and an overhaul of the museum’s brand, curated 14 exhibitions, selected more than 66 works for acquisition, oversaw the creation of 7 key museum positions, and led the museum in a successful effort to triple its teaching capability.
