Janica Towne Anderson

Janica Towne Anderson (CAS’63) of Tomales, Calif., published Zen Odyssey (Wisdom Publications, 2018), which “tells the story of two extraordinary individuals who were devoted to bringing the sacred tradition of Zen Buddhism to the West. Sokei-an Sasaki was the son of a samurai and Ruth Fuller Sasaki was a wealthy, highly educated woman from Chicago. The book follows their early lives and Ruth’s early studies in Japan until their lives intersect and together they open the first Zen Center in the United States, in New York City in 1930.” Janica is working on her second book, about the strong influence in her life of having two family members hanged as witches in Salem in 1692.
