Ivan Gulas
Ivan Gulas (CGS’67, CAS’69) of Los Angeles, Calif., published From Asylum to the Street: A Historical Perspective on a Modern Tragedy (Dr. Ivan Gulas, 2025). In 1971, he evaluated patients in an Ohio state psychiatric hospital, and today, he writes, he sees many of those same psychiatric symptoms playing out on sidewalks as he drives through Los Angeles. “This isn’t another policy paper filled with statistics,” Ivan writes of his new book. “This is a witness account from someone who saw both the beginning and the consequences of America’s abandonment of its most vulnerable citizens.”
