Ian Randal Strock
Ian Randal Strock (CAS’87,’89) of Brooklyn, N.Y., published Punctilious Punctuation (Gray Rabbit Publications, 2025), a book that explains the origins of “each and every one of those little spots and squiggles on the page.” Each chapter goes into the history, usage—and misusage—of a punctuation mark, along with plenty of anecdotes, footnotes, and illustrations. At BU, Ian was deputy editorial page editor and assistant book review editor at the Daily Free Press, and later published three books on presidential history and trivia through Random House and Carrel Books. His works of science fiction have won awards and been featured in several anthologies and collections. He has made presentations to Mensa, writers’ groups, science fiction societies, university classes, and other groups. He firmly believes in the utility and necessity of the serial comma.
