Corey La Rue
Corey La Rue (CFA’16) of Los Angeles, Calif., a disabled artist and an activist, returned with honorarium to Boston University as a visiting artist in 2025. Born in San Jose and raised in Oakland amid significant challenges, Corey discovered art as a lifeline in a youth rehabilitation program, leading him to BU where he honed his craft. In 2015, he was presented with the John Walker Prize in Painting. Since graduating, Corey has exhibited widely, participated in relief efforts, and had his work featured in several publications. Overcoming a near-fatal 2023 motorcycle accident that caused permanent paralysis in his dominant arm, Corey relearned to paint with his left hand, channeling themes of endurance and heritage into works using local soils and traditional pigments.
