Byron Smith

Byron Smith (CGS’06, COM’08) of Athens, Greece, published his debut monograph, Testament’22—A Visual Road Diary Through a War Zone (Verlag Kettler, 2024). In it, he documents his 10,000-mile journey across Ukraine during the country’s first year under Russian siege. Inspired by the works of late Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, Byron captures a nation at war with images of grief, communities amid ruin, and the tenacious spirit that persists. The publication has received several awards, most recently a 2023 Documentary Photography Award from the Royal Photographic Society.
