Alice (Silverberg) Horning

Alice (Silverberg) Horning (CAS’71) of Beverly Hills, Calif., published The Case for Critical Literacy: A History of Reading in Writing Studies (Utah State University Press, 2024), in which she argues that college English teachers have paid inconsistent attention to critical reading. “We now have a population that cannot analyze, synthesize, and respond to complex arguments on key issues as a result of this neglect,” she writes. “The need for more attention to critical reading is urgent.”
