Alexandra Chan
Alexandra Chan (GRS’03) of Portsmouth, N.H., published In the Garden Behind the Moon: A Memoir of Loss, Myth, and Magic (Flashpoint, 2024), a memoir illustrated with her own brush paintings. The story follows the progression of the Chinese zodiac, moving from the Year of the Ram (2015), when she experienced the death of her father, to Year of the Tiger (2022), with detours in prerevolution China, the Jim Crow South, the Pacific Theater of World War II, and beyond. “It’s my humble offering to the collective in these brutal times we are living in,” she writes, and “the most epic and most vulnerable thing I’ve done.” Email her at alexandrachancreative@gmail.com.
