No fooling -- April 2 is National Workplace Napping Day

William Anthony, SAR professor and director of BU's Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and his wife, Camille -- coauthors of The Art of Napping at Work: The No-Cost, Natural Way to Increase Productivity and Satisfaction (Lawson, 1999) -- have declared April 2 as National Workplace Napping Day.

At least one corporation, Yarde Metals in Bristol, Conn., will recognize the day in a lunchtime celebration for employees that includes music, food, a napping platform for lawn chairs, and a best napping outfit competition.

"It is time to plan ahead for the lost hour of sleep that occurs with daylight saving time," says Anthony, who encourages employers and employees to "promote a 20-minute workplace nap and experience the amazing effect it has on productivity, alertness, and well-being."

On April 2, the Anthonys will release new data from their Web survey on workplace napping, to which over 1,000 people have responded.
