Professional Development
The overall goal of the GSC Professional Development Subcommittee is to help fellow graduate students achieve their career goals by providing resources to aid them in their professional development. We have hosted developmental workshops, planned professional headshot services, and held panelled discussions with leaders in both industry and academia to allow graduate students and opportunity to engage with professional across career paths. Other career development services are also provided by programs across campus such as BU’s BEST and the Engineering Career Development Office.

Our photographer made the following wardrobe suggestions:
Think simple and professional. Try to avoid busy patterns, bold plaids, distracting jewelry, very bright colors and lots of white. Solid colors are preferred. Since this is a headshot, we will ONLY see you from the waist up. You may bring along another clothing choice if you like.
Thanks!

Come to Academic Career Night on November 13th!
Are you wondering how to find a job in academia after grad school? Want to hear some advice from young professors who recently went through the process? Then come to the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Student Committee's (BME GSC) first Academic Career Night!
The focus of the Academic Career Night is to allow graduate students interested in academia a chance to ask questions to current academic professionals about how they reached where they are in their careers. The event will consist of two panels of academic professionals: one with more experienced researchers/professors and one with more junior researchers/assistant professors. The idea is that the more senior researchers can discuss what they look for in Post-Doc candidates and how they can help refer their current students to other labs, while the more junior faculty can discuss the process they more recently went through to get their positions and what they learned from the experience.
