The GSC holds semesterly town hall meetings as a means to discuss the graduate student experience in the department and gather feedback to deliver to faculty leadership. These forums have been the starting point for a lot of major changes in the department, including improving the core curricula and revamping the qualifying exam. This first town hall of the year will serve as a brief introduction to the GSC for new students.
Agenda in Detail
Kamal Sen, the current Chair of Graduate Students, will provide a quick update on the department and will answer student questions. The majority of the meeting will be dedicated to an open forum for any student concerns. The town hall meetings are also a great opportunity to catch-up with colleagues over free lunch!
First-year Elections
We also use the falltownhallmeeting to select and on-board our First Year Officers. First Year Officers are primarily responsible for gathering and communicating feedback on the curriculum and department from all first year students. They are also help organize all social events put on by the GSC. For more information on the GSC and our responsibilities, please take a look around our website. If you are interested in being part of the GSC or know somebody who you think would be a good fit, nominate yourself or them HERE. We are hoping to recruit 3-4 new officers. All first year PhD, MS, and MEng students are welcomed and encouraged to join!
