What is Iftar, you may ask? Iftar is the meal that is eaten at sunset to break one's fast during Ramadan, an Islamic holy month. For 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the new moon, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Not only do they abstain from any eating and drinking but from certain behaviors as well such as gossiping, complaining, jealousy, and lying. Muslims are reminded of their dependence on God for sustenance, and to give compassion and empathy for those who are less fortunate. Fasting is not about staying hungry or thirsty, but rather provides an opportunity for a spiritual reset by exercising will-power, self-reflection, and self-control, essential for success in every part of life.
