Alan Jones, PhD

Retired; Healthcare Waste Management Consultant

In 1997 I created my company, Hospital Waste, to assist hospitals in complying with best practices and environmental regulations on managing their hazardous, radioactive, solid, and biomedical waste. My background is in biochemistry and environmental remediation, but got involved with healthcare compliance while authoring environmental impact statements for hospitals remodeling and expanding their facilities. It became apparent to me that the healthcare system was largely operating out of compliance with existing environmental regulations and best practices for waste management, especially hazardous waste.

I worked with hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as specific projects in Iowa and Barbados in managing healthcare waste. I wrote management plans, trained environmental services and engineering staff.
