Aaron Goldberg

Senior Lecturer in Music, Director of Athletic Bands; Conductor, Big Band

An accomplished educator, arranger, clinician and artist from Boston, Aaron Goldberg combines years of experience across the performing arts with a positive, upbeat, and engaging teaching style.

At Boston University, Aaron directs the Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble (Big Band), and All-University Commencement Brass Choir. He teaches a Special Topics course in the Music Education Department and advises the campus chapters of the nationally recognized co-ed collegiate band service fraternity and sorority, Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. As Director of Athletic Bands, he also oversees the Winter Guard, Winter Drumline, and summer Scarlet Band, and serves as winds arranger for the program. Aaron represents BU Bands as a Unit Director in the Dean of Students Division.

Aaron was a cast member of the Tony and Emmy Award-winning Broadway show “BLAST” on its 2005-2006 National Tour, performing on low brass, percussion, and voice. He has been involved in Drum Corps International (DCI) since 1998, beginning as a performing member of the Crossmen Drum Corps in 1998, and was the featured baritone soloist in 2000 and 2001. He served on the Crossmen brass staff from 2002-2010 and has taught the hornlines of the Blue Stars, Boston Crusaders, 7th Regiment, Connecticut Hurricanes, Jersey Surf, Troopers, and Spartans Drum Corps. Aaron has been on the design team of the Spartans (brass arranger) since 2019 when the corps won the DCI Open Class World Championship and took 1st place in nearly every caption.

The focus of Aaron’s work has largely been in instrumental music, with specific experience in drum corps, marching band, jazz ensemble, and brass pedagogy. Before he came to Boston University in 2011, he served as Director of Bands at North Andover (MA) High School, Pep Band Director at Boston College, Instrumental Music Teacher in Revere (MA) Public Schools, and Instrumental & Kindergarten Music Teacher in Wilmington (MA) Public Schools. Aaron has taught and arranged music for numerous high school marching bands across the Northeast, and has been invited to teach and clinic high school marching bands across the country. He has adjudicated music for USBands, the New England Scholastic Bands Association (NESBA), and Great East Festivals, and is a frequent music clinician in public schools.

Aaron earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from University of Massachusetts Lowell, and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance (Euphonium) from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. He is a member of the Collegiate Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), Pi Kappa Lambda, an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, and in 2019 was elected to the Crossmen Drum Corps Hall of Fame.
