Marching Band – Percussion Requirements

To Join

Step 1: Complete the Marching Band form on the Join page
Step 2: Register for your correct course number on Studentlink
Step 3: Submit a video if you are a new percussion member (see below)

New Member Video

If you are a new percussion member, please send us a video performing the materials specified below. These videos will NOT be used to determine if you have a spot in percussion. These videos will be used to determine the skill set of the group before band camp in order to plan accordingly for the season. Videos MUST be received by Monday, July 20th. Returning members are not required to submit a video.

Material to Perform – Percussion (UPDATED 6.19)

For Snare Drum, Tenors, Bass Drum: Click to Download the BU Drumline Warm Up Sequence.

Perform the following selections from the sequence at the specified tempos:
8-8-16 @ m.m. 140 (Bass Drummers perform “snare/unison” part)
Double Beat @ m.m. 132 (Bass Drummers perform “snare/unison” part)
Triple Beat @ m.m. 108 (Bass Drummers perform “snare/unison” part)
Paradiddles @ m.m. 142 (Bass Drummers perform bass part of your choice i.e. drum 1, 2, etc.) 
16th note Rolls @ m.m. 116 (Bass Drummers perform bass part of your choice i.e. drum 1, 2, etc.)
AKA @ m.m. 116 (Bass Drummers perform bass part of your choice i.e. drum 1, 2, etc.) 
Short solo of your choice (30 – 60 seconds)

For Front Ensemble, Perform the following selections:
Boogie @ 96bpm & 112bpm
Salsa Verde @ 100bpm (1 time in written key of C Major & 1 time in G Major)
7/8 Block Chord @ 88bpm (Page 1 only)
Short solo of your choice (30 – 60 seconds)

Video Requirements

– Upload your video via YouTube
– Videos are due by Monday, July. 20th
– Perform the material for your preferred section
– Perform with a metronome audible in your video
