Andrew Park
Marching Band & Winter Guard Color Guard Captain
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Bio: Good morning! My name’s Andrew Park (he/him), and I’m the Color Guard Captain for the 25-26 school year. My main instrument is clarinet, but I utilized the opportunities given to me in BU Bands program and started spinning in the spring semester of my freshman year. Currently, I’m a senior studying Biomedical Engineering focusing on getting a career in biotech, meaning I mostly do a lot of wet lab stuff :D. Outside of band, I work part-time at the Engineering Tutoring Center and FitRec. I am also participating in research at the Lu Lab in BU Medical Campus. Some of my hobbies include playing music, skating, eating out with friends, cooking, baking, and watching musicals.
What is your favorite part of being a band member? My favorite part of being a band member is the sheer amount of opportunities I gained just by being in band. If you asked the high school me if I could see myself playing trumpet and doing color guard, then my answer would have been no. My musical experience throughout my high school years have been very limited to woodwinds, and there weren’t many opportunities to explore different sections of the band that I was not familiar with. However, in the BU bands, I was able to join the winter guard program, allowing me to get involved in color guard. BU bands has allowed me to find my true passion in color guard and provide me an opportunity to spin flag, rifle, and sabre. Also, the brass class in BU Bands has allowed me to learn trumpet. There isn’t many bands out there that supports the musicians in the band to expand out of their comfort zone and get support learning different part of music that they were not familiar with before. I think the opportunities that the BU Band provides makes it a great organization.
