Celebrate One Boston Day with These Events around the City
Participate in acts of service across the city to honor victims, survivors, and first responders of the 2013 Marathon bombings
With the 127th Boston Marathon only days away, it is important to honor and remember those impacted by the tragic marathon bombing, as its 10th anniversary looms. To honor those whose lives changed forever because of the attacks on April 15, 2013, the April 15 has been deemed “One Boston Day.” Mayor Michelle Wu says the celebration continues to be “a living demonstration of our strength when we come together as one.” One Boston Day will consist of a variety of events and activities held throughout the city to encourage citizens to spread kindness and inspire unity.
1. Franklin Park Community Cleanup
Stop by the Franklin Park Playstead from 10 am to 1 pm for a community cleanup on Pierpoint Road. Join the Mayor’s Youth Council and Office of Civic Organizing to help clean up Boston’s largest green space. Sign up for the event here.
2. Stepping Strong Center Blood Drives
In addition to the city’s events and activities, a handful of blood drives will happen throughout Boston. The Stepping Strong Center will host a blood drive at City Hall Plaza and Copley Square Park. The center, which aims to turn tragedy into hope for trauma patients, will partner with the Massachusetts General Hospital Blood Donor Center for the drive. The center was founded in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings and will offer demonstrations on how to help someone suffering traumatic blood loss. The two drives take place from 10 am to 3 pm. You can register for the City Hall Plaza drive here and the Copley Square Park drive here.
