10 Dorm-Friendly Friendsgiving Recipes
Looking for quick and easy Thanksgiving recipes that can be made from the comfort of your mini-microwave? We’ve got you covered.
Although it is difficult to Gordon Ramsay–it-up in your dorm room with just a micro-fridge and microwave, you can still do better than the classic “boy dinner” that we all know from social media. So, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s time to refine our microwaving skills. Here is a list of Thanksgiving recipes that will elevate your cooking skills to “mediocre chef”– I’m just being realistic here. Prerequisites: patience, and a podcast to accompany your microwaving journey. Soft skills learned from the recipes: problem-solving, empathy, creativity, and leadership. Overall, it’s a well-rounded experience. Now, you better host a Friendsgiving!

Cornbread Stuffing
Not going to lie, this recipe requires more time and ingredients than others. Personally, as a college student, I would never go to the market and buy thyme leaves—it’ll probably taste the same anyways. But, this is a Thanksgiving staple that you cannot go without.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup chopped celery
- 4 ounces raw breakfast sausage
- ½ cup chicken or turkey broth
- 5 cups of cubed stale cornbread
- 1 tablespoon chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
- 1 large egg

Apple Pie in a Mug
Here’s a fun treat that doesn’t require much cleaning. All you need to do is finally wash your mugs (that you probably never use anyway). Now, you can make some microwavable apple pie straight from your dorm room microwave. The photo is deceiving because it probably won’t turn out like that (sorry)—or maybe it will? At the end of the day, it’ll still be yummy.
Ingredients:
- 2 apples
- 4 graham crackers
- 12 red cinnamon candies (optional)
- 2 small cubes of sharp cheddar (optional)
- Whipped cream
- Cinnamon for dusting
Two servings (Recipe courtesy of food.com.)
