Why should I go?
Take in the city skyline as you kayak up and down the Charles River. The views are one-of-a-kind on days with clear visibility. As you paddle, notice the historic brownstone apartments in Back Bay, the Citgo sign in Kenmore, and the bustling tech-developments in Cambridge. Pass underneath people traveling across the Longfellow and Harvard Bridges. Row to the Esplanade and share the calmer waters with ducks and geese.
Be sure to choose a day with great weather. Low winds are ideal so you’re not paddling into headwinds that can slow your speed (unless you’re looking for good exercise).
Also remember to bring protection from the sun, like sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat. Be prepared for your clothes to get a little wet, depending on how windy it is.
Paddle Boston allows coolers (no alcohol) and food to be taken on their boats. You must be at least 18 years of age to rent a boat (16 with parental signature on rental waiver), and children of all ages are permitted. Each participant must sign a waiver stating, among other things, that they will wear their life jacket throughout the rental. Dogs are also permitted in Paddle Boston boats, but be careful they don’t jump in the water. Dog life jackets are available at each location.
