The fall semester has been underway at BU for about six weeks, and students on campus aren’t just juggling tests, papers, and projects. They’re also navigating BU’s new Learn from Anywhere (LfA) model, a hybrid of in-person and remote learning. LfA poses new challenges, especially for majors like mechanical engineering that involve direct experience.
So how does a curriculum that includes hands-on labs work in this new normal? In this vlog, Aaron Hwang (ENG’21) shares what it’s like navigating a combination of in-person and remote classes and labs. Along the way, he’s discovered some surprises. He likes the freedom of being able to Zoom into a class when and where he wants—sitting in the sun on the BU Beach, for instance. And he’s also discovered a few glitches. But the big takeaway, he says, is that he’s learned that “the key is just to roll with the punches and play it by ear.”
