Power and heat were restored at 6:45 p.m.this evening to all of the buildings on West Campus affected by the power outage. A temporary power problem caused a major network distribution router to go offline at approximately 4:40 p.m. Power to the router has also been restored.
Tomorrow morning, contractors will be working on Buick Street to determine the extent of the problem with the steam line. The work will not impact power, but may affect heat between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
A steam line leak on West Campus has shorted out electrical systems knocked out heat in several West Campus buildings: StuVi I, 25 Buick St., and 855, 871 and 881 Commonwealth Ave. Gary Nicksa, senior vice president of operations, says departments that have lost power include Human Resources, Information Services, Financial Affairs, Enrollment, and Student Health Services. Human Resources is operating from a remote location. Nicksa says he expects power to be out for minimum of five hours.
