YouSpeak: An Anniversary for BU’s Kenneth Elmore
A decade as dean of students
Easily the most recognizable face on campus, Kenneth Elmore is celebrating a special anniversary: 10 years ago this past August, in what was a homecoming of sorts, he arrived to take a new role—dean of students. Elmore (SED’87) began his BU career as a graduate intern in the Student Activities Office in 1985 while pursuing a master’s degree in education. He went on to become associate director of Residence Life, and at the same time was pursuing a law degree at New England Law. He left BU to practice law, but always knew he’d be back, he says.
In his 10 years of deanship Elmore has become famous for his signature bow ties, his red Vespa, and his intrepidity in jumping into the Charles River. He has also changed the public face of the Dean of Student’s Office, challenging Student Life offices to create a better student experience and pioneering the use of social media to advance student outreach.
This week, “YouSpeak” pays tribute to Elmore’s decade of service and asks students for their favorite stories about him.
Happy anniversary, Dean, and here’s to the next 10!
“YouSpeak” typically appears each Monday.
