Wegman’s Weimaraners Come to Boston
Photographer’s show in Hotel Commonwealth
William Wegman, the artist famous for his photographs of Weimaraners in anthropomorphic poses, is showing an exhibition of his work at the Panopticon Gallery, inside the Hotel Commonwealth, for the next month. William Wegman: Inside/Outside includes some never-before-seen works from Wegman’s archives.
Untitled (Flying Dog #2), 2010, is one in a series of 38 images of the photographer’s dogs flying. To achieve the airborne effect, Wegman gently tossed his dogs onto pillows a few feet away and took photos of them as they were suspended in the air.
Wegman adopted his first Weimaraner, the now-famous Man Ray, in the early 1970s. Since then, his photographs, videos, paintings, and drawings have been collected and exhibited by museums and galleries around the world. In addition, his work has been featured on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Saturday Night Live, and Sesame Street.
The exhibition runs through September 7. The Panopticon Gallery, 520c Commonwealth Ave., Kenmore Square, Boston, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. More information is available here.
