WTBU Contest Winner
Student-run WTBU promotes its accessibility by asking listeners, “How do you WTBU?”

WTBU — complete with a fresh logo and a new Web site and slogan — wants to know, “How do you WTBU?”
Last semester, the student-run station teamed up with the College of Communication’s Ad Lab to solicit logo ideas from artists via BU Today’s Web site, then conducted a poll, encouraging readers and listeners to vote for their favorites. Within a week, over 100 voters weighed in with their comments.
The winning design was kept “simple and classic,” according to creator Kori Mausner. “It had to portray all the aspects of WTBU and the tower on top of the Communication building is what inspired the idea.” (The tower has since been removed.)
The new logo reflects the station’s campaign goals, too, says WTBU faculty advisor Anne Donohue, a COM associate professor. “The winning entry seemed simple, clear, but conveyed the wireless computer, radio, and TV transmission options.”
Throughout the coming semester, WTBU will be hosting a number of promotional events and live shows, including newly developed monthly listening parties and in-studio artist sessions to promote its growing presence on campus. “Radio is alive and well and thriving at BU,” says Donohue.
WTBU, Boston University’s student-run radio station, broadcasts during fall and spring semesters. WTBU broadcasts online at wtburadio.org and on campus, in selected dorms, on 640 AM, 89.3 FM, and BUTV Channel 6. WTBU offers listeners varied music programming, local and national news, and live BU sports broadcasts. The station is staffed entirely by volunteer students under the supervision of a faculty advisor.
