BU Takes Hockey East Quarterfinal in Game Three
Terriers stuff Black Bears 6-2

The top-ranked Boston University men’s ice hockey team rolled to a 6-2win over eighth-seeded Maine in the third game of the Hockey EastTournament quarterfinals on March 15 at Agganis Arena. Nick Bonino (CAS’11) and Brandon Yip(CAS’09) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Terriers, who improve to29-6-4. They will face Boston College on Friday, March20, in the conference semifinals at the TD Banknorth Garden.
BU becomes the first school to advance to the Hockey East semifinalsfor eight straight seasons. The Terriers took Friday night’s first game of the series, 2-1, but the Black Bears came back on Saturday to wrest the second game from BU, 6-3. Maine ended its season with arecord of 13-22-4.
The Terriers scored in the opening minute before the visitorsscored their sixth power-play goal of the weekend to make it a 1-1contest at 14:19 of the first. BU, however, quickly scored two moregoals as part of a five-goal run to seal the victory in its final homegame of the season.
Matt Gilroy (CAS’09), John McCarthy (CAS’09), and David Warsofsky (CGS’10) all had two assists each, while Zach Cohen (CAS’10), Colby Cohen (CAS’11), Joe Pereira (CAS’11), and Corey Trivino (CAS’12) each recorded a goal in the triumph.
Netminder Kieran Millan(CAS’12) made 24 saves in his 23rd victory of the season, andScott Darling stopped 20 shots before yielding way to JoshSeeley, who saved both shots he faced in the final 2:40.
