  1. Why can’t the answers be more clear. It’s beating around the bush and so ambiguous. Still I’m not sure what the article is trying to convey.

  2. I agree that this article doesn’t make clear what BU’s policies actually are. The policies are undoubtedly written down and probably relatively clear — why not make them public? This statement is vague and leaves a lot of wiggle room: “Currently, Boston University generally shares information with parents about grades and academic work by the student, and we also share information about academic or other difficulties the student may be having. Basically, the University has chosen to keep families informed.”

  3. The headline and subheading of this article leave much to be desired, but the information is of value. I interpret the article to mean that the US Department of Education and university lawyers have found room in FERPA to allow administrators, parents and students to use common sense in these matters. If this new reading can help us prevent another deadly incident on a college campus, I approve.
