Barack Obama has already made history. He is the first African-American to be elected president, capturing traditionally Republican states like Indiana and Virginia and winning the popular vote by six percentage points, a wider margin than any Democratic candidate in decades.
But come January, it will be time to govern. The challenges are as immense as any faced by a U.S. president: an economy in shambles, wars on two battlefields, and leadership needed on critical issues ranging from the environment and health care to Social Security and the federal deficit.
How will Obama make good on his promise of change? BU Today asked Graham Wilson, a College of Arts and Sciences professor of political science, and Douglas Kriner, a CAS assistant professor of political science, what Obama’s administration will look like — and what he needs to do first.
