Chief Thomas Robbins says that with the warm weather approaching, students should remember to lock their doors and windows when going out. Windows by fire escapes can be used as a means of entry.

The BUPD crime log for April 7 through April 21 is below. The next campus crime log will appear on Wednesday, May 7.

4/21/2008 Mon Bravo MEDICAL ASSIST / ALCOHOL Judicial Referral 700 COMMONWEALTH AV Residential LOBBY
Officer Brian Abdallah was dispatched for an intoxicated party in the 4th floor lobby. Upon arrival he met with the victim who was seated in the lobby and vomiting into a trash barrel. Mercy Ambulance P-3 responded and transported the victim to the Beth Israel Hospital for further treatment.

Officer Anicet Dybantsa and Sergeant Larry Cuzzi were dispatched to investigate a loud party on the roof. Upon arrival officers met two female parties on the roof of the building. When asked what they were doing on the roof, both parties were nervous and were unable to answer. Officers observed a marijuana cigarette lying on a concrete wall close to the two parties belongings. When asked if the cigarette belong to them, they refused to answer. The marijuana cigarette was in plain view within their reach. Both parties will be summonsed in Roxbury Court for possession of class D

Officers Dan DiGiovine and Brandon Stone responded for an intoxicated male. The victim was detained and placed him into protective custody for safekeeping and medical reasons related to alcohol consumption. The victim became sick and vomited while at the station. Mercy ambulance was summoned and unit # 107 arrived and transported the victim to the Beth Israel Hospital.

Officer William Campanella was dispatched to the 4th floor for an intoxicated female. Upon arrival, Officer Campanella met with the victim, who stated that she had consumed several shots of an unknown alcoholic beverage and about 6 beers at a frat party on Ashford Street. The victim was unsure of the address of the fraternity she was at. The victim further stated that she contacted a friend, because she had lost her Boston University ID and had no means to return to 700 Commonwealth Ave. Her friend came via taxi cab and picked up the victim and escorted her back to her residence. Mercy Ambulance responded and transported the victim to Boston Medical.

Officers Melissa Lombardo and Officer John Mahoney were dispatched to for an intoxicated female in the women’s bathroom stall. Upon arrival, officers and Mercy Ambulance EMT’s met with the victim inside the concourse of Nickerson Field. The victim spoke with slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet. She had also passed out on a bathroom stall for an unknown period of time, and had marks on her face from leaning on the toilet. Mercy Ambulance transported the victim to Beth Israel.

Officer Tom Smith while on detail at Nickerson Field responded for an intoxicated male. RSIG security brought an intoxicated male to Officer Smith’s attention as he was attempting to gain entry to a concert. Officer Smith noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the victim and the victim was having trouble forming sentences and slurring his speech. Mercy Ambulance responded and transported the victim.

Officers Anicet Dybantsa and William Campanella were dispatched for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival they met with the victim who stated that he was assaulted by four or five white males as he was walking down Ashford St. The victim stated he came upon a group of five males and suspect #1 struck him with a closed fist in the area of his face. The victim stated at that time he covered himself and went down on the ground. The victim then stated that an unknown number of males in the group began kick at him. The victim stated that several people on the street ran to his assistance. The males fled on Ashford St towards Malvern St. The victim described suspect #1 as a white male, unknown height and average weight, dark clothing and wearing a sweat shirt with DKNY letters on the front. Suspect #2 was described as a white male, unknown height and weight, wearing black t-shirt and baggy shorts. The other suspects were described only as white males, age between 20 and 25. The victim had some blood on his chin and inside his mouth. Boston EMS was called to the scene and Boston Police arrived on scene and took a report for the assault. The area was checked for the suspects with negative results. The victim refused medical attention at the scene.

Officer Melissa Lombardo responded to the seventh floor for a report of vandalism. Upon arrival, Officer Lombardo met with ORL RA staff, who stated that she had just been informed by residents of the seventh floor that two swastikas had been written on the hallway walls of the seventh floor. She stated that she did not have a time frame as to when the vandalism occurred, but did state that residents had attempted to wash the markings off. Sergeant Jefferey Burke also responded to the scene. Officer Lombardo was provided with a digital camera and was able to photograph what remained of the markings. Officer Lombardo observed a large black swastika on the wall immediately in front of the seventh floor elevator. Officer Lombardo also observed two long black lines in the seventh floor hallway ending at room 722, followed by a small black swastika. Sergeant Burke and Officer Lombardo went door to door, attempting to speak with residents of the seventh floor regarding this incident. Residents indicated that the first time they observed the swastikas was at 12:45 AM. The residents also stated that they did not feel they had been specifically targeted. While this incident does coincide with Passover, these markings only appeared on the seventh floor, and no previous incidents have been reported in this area.

Officer William Donnellan responded for a past larceny report. Upon arrival he met with the victim who stated that while working for Dining Services at 7 PM she placed her back pack in a locker in the staff area of the fourth floor and closed it but did not have a lock for it. Upon returning at 9 PM she discovered her MBTA Charlie Card Zone 1A valued at $53.00 USC was taken from a pocket in the backpack.

Officer Brandon Stone observed a college aged female subject sitting on a bus stop bench with a known local homeless male. Upon closer observation, he could see that the female subject appeared to be highly intoxicated, was leaning towards the homeless male, and pulling her shirt down exposing her breasts. The male, who sat on the bench next to her made no gestures or movements towards her at this time. Upon stopping my cruiser and called for additional units, he separated the two parties. Officer Stone asked the female subject why she was doing this, and she stated, “I have a soft spot for bad people.” Sergeant Daniel Healy arrived on location to assist along with Officers Melissa Lombardo and Paul Devlin. The female subject was is a Berklee College student. The female subject was highly intoxicated, unstable on her feet, red glassy eyes, strong odor of alcohol coming from her person and slurred speech. The female subject stated that she was never assaulted or touched in any way and was sitting on the bench with him willingly. At this time, it was determined that her highly intoxicated stated posed a danger to herself and or others. She was then placed into protective custody and transported back to the BUPD station. After her arrival at the station, the female subject’s condition began to deteriorate and Boston EMS was notified. Boston H&H responded and transported her to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for further evaluation.

Sergeant Kevin Bourque met with the victim of a past bike theft. The victim stated that he locked his bike to a bicycle rack in front of the door at 6 PM. When he returned at 9:00 PM he observed that his bike was missing and his kryptonite lock was on the ground unlocked.

Officer Kevin St. Ives was dispatched for a report for a past larceny of a bicycle. Upon arrival he met with the victim who stated that her bicycle was last seen locked to the bike rack in front of her building at 10 PM on 4/15/2008. The victim reports that when she went to use her bicycle at 4:00 PM on 4/16/2008, she discovered her lock had been cut and her bike had been stolen. The lock was left at the scene and turned over to Officer St. Ives. The victim stated that she had purchased the bicycle 4 years ago and did not know the make or model of the bike. The victim believes the value of her bike was $100.00.

Officer Tom Gaffney responded for a report of vandalism. Upon arrival he met with the reporting party, who stated that all three elevators on the first floor had been tampered with. The reporting party stated that the elevator panels had the screws removed and the wiring removed for the tenth and fourth floors. He said that with the wires removed all elevators pass by these two floors and do not stop. The reporting party stated that the panel was tampered with between 4/15/2008 at 11 PM through 4/16/2008 at 9:35 PM, when he got the call for repair. He also stated that on Friday, 4/11/2008 someone had opened the elevator doors between floors and dropped a shopping cart on the bottom of the elevator shaft. Otis Repair responded on 4/12/2008, and brought the elevator down to the bottom and crushed the cart. ORL Staff at 273 Babcock Street were notified by Officer Gaffney regarding the vandalism.

Officer William Campanella was flagged down by the victim of a B&E M/V. He was advised that the Boston Police had been notified. Officer Campanella was informed by the victim that a GPS and CD’s were taken.

Officer Matthew Blakeslee responded for a report of past vandalism. Upon arrival he met with the B&G area manager, who stated that two benches had been pulled up from the brick sidewalk and one of the benches had been fully removed and placed inside the vestibule of 236 Bay State Road. The second bench was still partially cemented in the brickwork between 226 and 232 Bay State Road. Both benches had damage and appeared to have been forcibly removed with their cement anchors. The brickwork had been pulled up and there was some damage to the sidewalk and steps in front of 236 Bay State Road where the fully freed bench was dragged.

Officer William Campanella was dispatched to the RA’s Office in reference to a false driver’s license. Upon arrival, Officer Campanella met with ORL Staff, who stated that they were called to a disturbance in room 1513 and while they were getting identification from involved parties, a female party produced a Georgia driver’s license but could not produce her BU ID. The female was escorted to the security desk at which time; the duty security guard identified the party as a BU Student. Officer Campanella met with the party who produced a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and stated to Officer Campanella that the Georgia driver’s license was a false license and that she had used on several occasions to gain access to local bars for the purpose of consuming alcohol. The Georgia license had a date of birth of 12/14/1987 which was altered to 12/14/1986, The victim’s true date of birth is 8/9/1987. The party further admitted to using the altered Georgia driver’s license earlier in the evening to gain access to bars to consume alcoholic beverages. Officer Campanella could detect the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the victim’s breath and Mercy Ambulance was contacted to evaluate the victim’s intoxication level. Mercy Ambulance #104 responded to the scene and determined, after speaking to THE VICTIM, that she was competent to refuse any further medical attention. Officer Campanella confiscated the Georgia driver’s license and informed THE VICTIM that she will be summonsed into Brighton District Court for a hearing for Forge/Misuse of an RMV Document.

Officer Kevin St. Ives was dispatched to assist Mercy ambulance with an intoxicated student. Upon arrival he met with the victim, who stated that she had 8 shots of hard alcohol. Mercy ambulance responded and transported the victim to the Beth Israel hospital.

Officer Matthew Blakeslee was dispatched for an intoxicated individual. Upon arrival, Officer Blakeslee met with ORL Staff and the victim, who was seated in the lobby area. Officer Blakeslee spoke with the victim who stated that he had too much to drink and was not yet 21 years of age. The victim was unable to complete several sobriety tests conducted by Officer Blakeslee. The victim also appeared to have difficulty keeping his balance and answering questions. Mercy General Ambulance 65 responded and transported the victim to the Boston Medical Center.

Officer Brandon Stone was dispatched for a report of an intoxicated individual in the lobby. Upon arrival he met with friends of the victim, who stated that their friend had locked himself in the bathroom for the last 15-20 minutes and was not answering them through the door. After repeatedly knocking loudly for several minutes and not receiving any answer, Officer Stone requested an ambulance to respond, the patrol supervisor and B&G to open the door. Sergeant Dan Healy and the B&G supervisor arrived on location. It was determined that B&G did not have a key to this bathroom. The Boston Fire Department was called to the scene to force the door open. Boston EMS arrived on location along with Boston Fire Department. Boston Fire forced the door open and the victim was found lying on the floor semi-conscious. The victim appeared to be highly intoxicated or under the influence of a narcotic. The victim was not verbalizing properly, pale, and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Boston EMS stated that there was a possibility that the victim had consumed some type of narcotic. Boston EMS transported the victim to the Beth Israel Hospital for further evaluation. The victim’s friends reported that they all had been out earlier in the night at an unknown location on Ashford Street.

Officer Anicet Dybantsa was dispatched for a report of an intoxicated female. Upon his arrival he met with ORL Staff and the victim who was lying on a couch in the lobby. There was vomit on the victim’s clothing and the floor, her speech was slurred and he could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her. The victim stated that she had been at a party on Pratt Street and consumed five shots of an alcoholic beverage. Mercy ambulance 104 arrived and transported the victim to the Boston Medical Center for further treatment.

Officer Matthew Blakeslee responded for an intoxicated individual in the lobby. Upon arrival he met with ORL Staff and the victim, who was seated in the lobby area. Officer Blakeslee attempted to question the victim, who had difficulty answering questions and when he attempted to stand, was unable to keep his balance. The victim stated that he consumed two alcoholic beverages and that he was not 21 years of age. Mercy General #103 arrived and transported the victim to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for further evaluation.

Officer Brandon Stone was dispatched for an intoxicated male. Upon arrival he observed a male party who was sitting in a chair with a bloody nose and swollen lip. The victim appeared visibly intoxicated, with red glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The victim stated he was punched in the face earlier in the night by an unknown person at a party on Ashford Street. The victim could not speak coherently and seemed highly intoxicated. Mercy ambulance responded and transported the victim to the Boston Medical Center for further evaluation.

Officer Peter Shin was dispatched to the Campus Convenience for a report of a past larceny. Upon arrival, he met with the reporting party who stated that the mat that was placed outside the front entrance door was stolen on 4/10/2008 at 11:55 PM. The reporting party reviewed security video and it indicated that three white males were at the front door to the store at 11:55 PM. Two of the males stepped in to the store to open the door and the third male picked the mat and fled the scene with the other male parties. The mat is described as a black mat with the words Campus Convenience in the middle of the mat. The reporting party believes the mat was valued at $80.00.

Officers Melissa Lombardo and John Mahoney responded to the rear of 1065 Commonwealth Ave. for a past B&E to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim who stated that he parked his car at Malvern Street and Gardner Street at 7 PM. When he returned at 11:30 PM, his front passenger window was smashed. No items were missing from the vehicle.

Officer Jack Struble responded for a past larceny. Upon arrival he met with the reporting party who stated that a painting was removed from its frame. The reporting party stated that he last saw the painting on 4/9/2008 at 11:00 AM on the bathroom wall. He discovered the painting was missing on 4/10/2008 at 12 PM. The reporting party stated that the value is $10.00.

Officers Matthew Blakeslee and John Mahoney responded to a call for possible drug use. Upon arrival, officers went to the room and met with the occupant. ORL Staff were on scene and told officers that they initially responded to that location after smelling marijuana coming from that room. Officer Blakeslee was handed a homemade smoking “pipe” by ORL Staff who stated that they were given that item by the occupant. He stated that he was smoking marijuana in his room and when questioned by the RAs, gave them the pipe. He further stated that he did not have any other contraband in the room or on his person. He stated to the officers that he did manufacture the pipe and used it for smoking marijuana. The paraphernalia was seized by Officer Blakeslee for safekeeping and submitted

Officer Rick Camillo and Sergeant Jefferey Burke observed a male and a female party using chalk writing on the sidewalk. Officers approached the suspects and requested identification. The parties were identified and ordered to refrain from any similar action and informed that a report and a student code violation would be filed regarding this incident. Both individuals were then allowed to leave the area.

Officer Joseph Sirignano responded for a past larceny. Upon arrival he met with the reporting party who stated that they were missing a $40,000 Chemistry microwave unit. The unit was initially sent to the manufacturer for $3300.00 in repairs on 7/27/2007. The reporting party stated that 3/18/2008 he contacted company as to the whereabouts of the microwave unit. The company responded on 3/24/2008 by e-mail and stated that they shipped the unit back and unit was signed for 10/16/2007. The reporting party contacted the party that signed for the unit and he confirmed that he received the microwave unit on 10/16/2007. He then stated that stored it in room 418, a storage room on the 4th floor of 590 Commonwealth Av. He then stated that he sent an e-mail on 10/17/2007 at 4:11 PM to the reporting party, in an attempt to notify him that he had mistakenly been delivered the microwave unit. The reporting party claims to have never received the e-mail. The reporting party went to 590 Commonwealth Ave in an effort to retrieve the microwave unit. Both parties proceeded to the storage room but could not locate it. The area by the storage room has been undergoing renovations and there have been construction crews in and out of the building in past months. The construction crews were in and out of the area where the missing microwave was kept and the door to the storage room was propped open now and then. Items kept in the room were sometimes moved into the adjacent hallway to gain access to areas under construction.
