The hard work and focus of students in the schools of music, theatre, and visual arts at the College of Fine Arts were the motivation behind the InCite festival, conceived as a way to showcase the talents of young up-and-coming artists. The festival will run from Sunday, March 9, through Saturday, March 15, and features plays, concerts, gallery exhibitions, and performance showcases at venues around New York. A complete schedule of events and ticket information is available on the InCite Web site.
Jim Petosa, the director of the school of theatre and the executive producer of InCite, says the festival was designed as a way to boost CFA’s profile. “We felt that putting together a festival that celebrated the interconnection of the three schools and reflected the kind of teaching that goes on here would be a terrific way to herald ourselves,” he says.
One of the performances, directed by Petosa, is a remount of a successful rendition of Tom Stoppard’s Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. Of the six actors who performed it with Petosa at Boston University in 2006, two are now young alums.
“What I have found most intriguing in our rehearsal is how much these six actors have grown in the year and a half since we did the original production, in which they succeeded quite admirably,” Petosa says. “It has been a pleasure to find their facility as actors to have been enhanced as a result of the training they’ve had in the year and a half since we first worked together on this piece.”
In the slide show above, Jason McDowell-Green (CFA’07), who also directs Nitzan Halperin’s Sow and Weep at the festival, talks about Every Good Boy Deserves Favour and the excitement of performing in New York City.
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour will take place on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. at The Town Hall, 123 West 43rd St. Sow and Weep and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat will be performed on Monday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, at the Helen Mills Theater, 137 West 26th St. For a complete performance schedule and ticket information, visit https://www.bu.edu/cfa/incite.
