Be Well, BU: Playing with Fire at Safety Week

This week, BU Today looks at the year in wellness at Boston University, reminding students, faculty, and staff of the health and safety resources available to the University community. This video can also be seen on YouTube, Google, and Myspace.

The main event of Safety Week, a five-day stretch of programs around campus that covered alcohol abuse, property theft, safe sex, pedestrian and bike safety, and fire safety, took place on Friday morning, September 28: a full-size replica of a Boston University dorm room was set on fire in the Granby Street parking lot to illustrate how quickly flames can spread.

The Dorm Burn was one of the final events of this year’s safety initiative, sponsored by the offices of Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, and Environmental Health and Safety, along with the BU Police Department. Students spent the week participating in a range of activities, including a Beer Goggles obstacle course, where they donned goggles that simulate varying blood-alcohol levels and tried to navigate the course, and Rape Aggression Defense training sessions.
