Women Terriers Race to Fight Cancer

Lacrosse player Sarah Dalton (CAS’09) was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman, was the fourth player in BU history to earn All-America status as a sophomore, and currently holds the fifth spot in the lacrosse rankings for number of goals in a season, with 52 in 2007. Her athletic drive helps the Terriers win games, but Dalton doesn’t stop there. Together with her lacrosse teammates and the Terrier women’s soccer team, she put her athletic ability to work last month in the fight against cancer.
The teams took part in the 15th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, on September 23, which raised more than $740,000 for breast cancer screening, education, treatment, and research. The BU women also learned a few important things about the value of early detection and listened to inspirational stories of cancer survivors.
Dalton, who completed the five-kilometer race in 21:27, was the top finisher from BU. She placed 8th among women runners and 51st out of all 1,600 runners.
Although this is the first year the women’s soccer team has run, the lacrosse women Terriers have raced to beat cancer for four years.
