Rebecca Kano has been appointed a clinical instructor of family medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine and an attending physician in the department of family medicine at Boston Medical Center.

Previously, Kano was an attending physician at the Plattsburgh Health Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine and completed a family practice residency at Scottsdale Healthcare in Scottsdale, Ariz., and a faculty development fellowship at the University of Arizona.

In addition to researching how exercise works as preventive medicine, Kano has been investigating the efficacy of using pedometers, small, wearable devices that count the user’s daily steps, as a motivational tool to increase patients’ physical activity. Her other interests include the health issues of women and adolescents.

Kano is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
