Jack Matlock, U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union under President Ronald Reagan, talks about the state of human rights in the former Soviet Union. The lecture, Dashed Hopes: Human Rights in the Former Soviet Union, was sponsored by Amnesty International in cooperation with the Institute for Human Sciences at Boston University. It is heard here courtesy of WBUR, Boston University’s award-winning National Public Radio station, which broadcast the talk on Boston University World of Ideas on January 21, 2007. Matlock is the author of two books on the collapse of the Soviet Union, Autopsy of an Empire and Reagan and Gorbachev.
