The Ladies of Macbeth
While one female lead may be enough for most productions of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth, the Actors’ Shakespeare Project decided to cast its current production with 11, making all the play’s characters — including the Scottish lord himself — female. After hearing a prophecy from witches, Macbeth, played by Marya Lowry, falls into a snare of murder and deception, egged on by his wife, Lady Macbeth, played by Paula Plum (CFA’75).
The goal of the nonprofit Actors’ Shakespeare Project is to provide accessible versions of Shakespeare’s work to a wide range of audiences. Macbeth, directed by Adrianne Krstansky, runs through November 18 at Studio 102 at the Boston University College of Fine Arts, 855 Commonwealth Ave. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. For more information, visit the project’s Web site, and for ticket information, call 866-811-4111 or click here.
