Sophomore Brandon Yip scored off his own rebound on a power play at the 9:22 mark of overtime to lead the No. 8 Boston University men’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over No. 19 Vermont in the third and decisive game of the Hockey East quarterfinals on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena. Junior Pete MacArthur assisted on two goals, including the game-winner, to record the 100th and 101st points of his career, while sophomores Chris Higgins and Jason Lawrence each scored in the first period to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
After the Catamounts threatened numerous times towards the end of regulation, the Terriers turned up their effort by dominating play in overtime. BU had more shots (10) in the extra session than in any of the three periods.
Junior Ryan Weston drew a penalty on a breakaway at the 9:09 mark of overtime, giving the Terriers their eighth power-play opportunity of the game.
