ALEA III, the contemporary music ensemble-in-residence at Boston University, has staked its reputation on exploring and celebrating the musical repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. Tonight, as the group marks its 30th season, one great modern composer will pay tribute to another. ALEA III will perform Night Music for John Lennon by Lukas Foss (Hon.’03), an internationally renowned composer and a College of Fine Arts adjunct professor of music.

The group will be joined by an 11-member trombone choir, the Boston-based Triton Brass Quintet, and soloist Don Lucas, a CFA associate professor of music and the chair of the wood, brass, and percussion department.

Conducted by George Stelluto, the concert, titled Celebrating Lukas Foss and Don Lucas, will include the work by Foss; the world premiere of Synergy, by Theodore Antoniou, the ALEA III director and a CFA professor of music; Rittornelli, by Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott; and Polyphony, by Austrian composer Franz Cibulka.

The concert Celebrating Lukas Foss and Don Lucas will be held tonight, November 5, at 8 p.m. at the Tsai Performance Center, 685 Commonwealth Ave. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the ALEA III Web site or call 617-353-3340.
