Readings to Go: Rosanna Warren
The award-winning poet reads from "Mistral"
In the video above, poet Rosanna Warren, a University professor and BU’s Emma Ann MacLachlan Metcalf Professor of the Humanities, reads from her new poetry series, Mistral.
Warren’s poetry collections are Snow Day, Each Leaf Shines Separate, Stained Glass, and Departure. Among her many awards are the 92nd Street YMHA/YWHA Nation Discovery Award, the Lamont Prize from the Academy of American Poets, and the Witter Bynner Prize for Poetry of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She has translated, with Stephen Scully, Euripides’ Suppliant Women. She is the editor of The Art of Translation: Voices from the Field. She has also edited two volumes of William Arrowsmith’s translations of the poems of Eugenio Montale, Cuttlefish Bones and Satura, and two anthologies of verse by prison inmates, In Time, with Teresa Iverson, and From This Distance, with Meg Tyler. She is working on a literary biography of Max Jacob. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997.
Warren was one of seven faculty members to read from their works at the annual Faculty Reading on January 30, 2007. Sponsored by BU’s Creative Writing Program, the event included readings by Leslie Epstein, a College of Arts and Sciences professor and director of the Creative Writing Program; Robert Pinsky, a CAS professor of English and three-time U.S. poet laureate; Jennifer Haigh, a CAS lecturer in creative writing and a PEN/Hemingway and PEN/Winship award winner; Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Louise Glück, a CAS lecturer in creative writing and another former U.S. poet laureate; David Ferry, a CAS lecturer in creative writing and winner of the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, the Bingham Poetry Prize, and the Teasdale Prize; and Ha Jin (GRS’94), a CAS professor of creative writing and winner of a National Book Award, two PEN/Faulkner Awards, and a PEN/Hemingway Award.
