Medical Campus Expands Outreach
Tomas Gonzalez is the new Medical Campus director of community outreach.

After more than seven years working for the city of Boston, Tomas Gonzalez wanted a change. He got it this summer. On August 27, he began his post as the director of community outreach at BU’s Medical Campus.
Gonzalez will work to facilitate and improve communications between the Medical Campus and the community. “We’re expanding what we once saw as the community to include more folks,” he says.
Since he started, Gonzalez has been learning about the campus and meeting faculty and staff members. “The better you know the story,” he says, “the better you can tell it.” He will work with community leaders, clergy, nonprofit organizations, community task forces, and others “to further BU’s Medical Campus mission, which is to provide outstanding health care,” he says.
Before joining BU, Gonzalez was the Latino liaison to the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services — which he describes as excellent training for his new post — and later was chief of staff of Boston’s Commission on the Affairs of the Elderly.
