DeAnna Pellecchia has danced with horses, in trees, on stilts, under water, and through the air. The Fitness and Recreation Center jazz funk instructor has performed in venues ranging from cemeteries and churches to coffeehouses and museums. This weekend, she will premiere a new work in BU’s Dance Showcase 2007.

The showcase, featuring faculty, alumni, students, and young dancers from Boston Ballet II, is being performed today, September 28, and Saturday, September 29, at FitRec’s Dance Theater, 915 Commonwealth Ave., beginning at 8 p.m.

Pellecchia will dance a work-in-progress with fellow contemporary dancer Ingrid Schatz, with whom she has worked for 10 years. With a “mixture of movement and theater-based ideas,” says Pellecchia, the duo will explore “the relationship and the dynamics between two women.”  The piece was inspired by Rachel Simmons’ nonfiction bestseller Odd Girl Out, which deals with how females channel aggression into gossip and manipulation.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 with a BU I.D., $12 with a Boston Dance Alliance card, and $15 for the general public.

Rebecca McNamara can be reached at ramc@bu.edu.
