CAS Student Killed in Fall

Boston Police investigation underway

UPDATE: The Office of the Dean of Students will be arranging transportation for the University community wishing to attend the wake and funeral for Michael Robertson in Tenafly, New Jersey.

Transportation to the wake will leave the GSU at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24. The wake will be held on Thursday, January 25, between 4 and 8 p.m., at the Barrett Funeral Home.

Transportation to the funeral will leave the GSU at 5 a.m. on Friday, January 26. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Tenafly.

A vehicle will return to the GSU immediately following the funeral service, and another will leave from the Presbyterian Church and return to the GSU on Saturday, January 27 at 9 a.m.

A Boston University student died early Sunday morning after a fall from a fourth-floor window in his South Campus residence hall.

Michael Robertson, 20, of Demarest, New Jersey, reportedly fell from the window of his room at 46 Mountfort St., according to Boston University spokesman Colin Riley. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, Riley said, and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 a.m. The Boston Police Department is investigating the incident.

Crisis counseling was made available to Roberston’s three roommates, Riley said, and members of the Residence Life staff met with students at 46 Mountfort St. on Sunday night. Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore, who spoke with Robertson’s family, said that University officials were “continuing to assess the student community” and “working to ensure that they receive the counseling and support that they require.”

A transfer student from the University of Richmond, Robertson began his studies at the College of Arts and Sciences last semester, and lived in the Hyatt Regency last fall. He had moved into South Campus last week, before the start of spring semester classes.
