For urban design students, thinking outside the box can mean creating buildings and spaces that don’t look like shoeboxes. That’s the goal of Zakcq Lockrem (MET’07).

Lockrem lives in the up-and-coming neighborhood of East Boston. As an urban planning, sociology, and design student, one of his projects this semester was to create a master plan for a piece of property overlooking Boston Harbor. In his blog, onetenchelsea, Lockrem shares his plans.

The blog features commentary and photographs of unusual pieces of architecture around the world. In March, he took advantage of a trip to Montreal for thesis research to photograph several interesting buildings — including an apartment building that appears to defy gravity. The blog also provides links to other urban planning and design blogs. A link to Lockrem’s photography is an added bonus.

Like many students, Lockrem says that his blog is a great way to procrastinate. “I do this stuff when I’m putting off writing papers,” he wrote in an April 22 entry.
