ENG’s McDaniel elected fellow of the Acoustical Society of America
Hear ye, hear he! ENG professor Gregory McDaniel wins a fellowship in the Acoustical Society of America.
Associate Professor of Engineering J. Gregory McDaniel’s work on structural acoustics has yielded him fellowship in the prestigious Acoustical Society of America. The society recently elevated McDaniel from member to fellow, a distinction accorded to only 12 percent of the ASA’s 7,000 members.
According to the ASA, members who have rendered conspicuous service or made notable contributions to the advancement or diffusion of the knowledge of acoustics, or the fostering of its practical applications are eligible for election as fellows.
Some of McDaniel’s projects have involved the interaction between sound and underwater structures, structural vibration, and automotive brake squeal. His involvement with the ASA has included a stint as chairman of the society’s Student Papers Committee.
“Personally, I’m happy my research in structural acoustics has been recognized as a body of work,” said McDaniel, who has been a member of the AME faculty since 1996.
